Instructions
Preparation
Start by greasing a large bowl with cooking spray, or lay down a piece of wax paper on your working surface.
Melting
In a large pot over low heat, combine the butter and marshmallows. Stir continuously until the marshmallows are melted and smooth.
Coloring
Once melted, divide the marshmallow mixture into two bowls. In one bowl, add a few drops of red food coloring and mix until the color is uniform. In the second bowl, if using, add a drop of green food coloring for added flair.
Combining
Pour the entire 6 cups of Rice Krispies into the bowl with the red marshmallow mixture. Stir until all the cereal is coated evenly with the marshmallow.
Shaping
While the mixture is still warm but manageable, take small handfuls and shape them into brain-like halves. Slightly flatten the top and bottom to give a more realistic brain appearance.
Setting
Place the shaped brains onto the prepared wax paper. Allow them to cool for about 30 minutes, or until firm.
Decorating
After the brains have set, use candy eyeballs to decorate them as you like. If you wish, drizzle melted chocolate over the top for a spooky effect.
Notes
For best results, avoid overheating the marshmallows and ensure that your hands are slightly buttered or sprayed to avoid sticky fingers while shaping.
