Instructions
Preparation
In a large pan, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook them until soft and fragrant.
Add the beef mince to the pan. Cook until the mince is browned.
Cooking the Sauce
Pour in the passata and add the tomato paste. Season with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of oregano. Let the mixture simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Making the White Sauce
In a separate pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir to create a paste (this is called a roux).
Gradually whisk in the milk until the sauce thickens, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
Assembling the Lasagna
In a baking dish, start by spreading a layer of the meat mixture.
Add a layer of lasagna sheets on top.
Spread some of the white sauce over the pasta, followed by a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
Repeat this layering process two more times, finishing with cheese on top.
Baking
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
Serving
Once done baking, let the lasagna rest for about 15 minutes to set, making it easier to slice.
Notes
For best results, avoid overcooking the pasta before baking. Customize with additional ingredients like ricotta cheese or vegetables for variation.
